Happy April! Spring is in the air and depending on where you are located, flea, tick, and mosquito season may already be in full swing! Here in the upper Midwest, the weather may be a bit temperamental, but reports of ticks are starting to be shared. Wherever your location, it’s never too early to remind clients to be prepared. April is host to multiple fun and engaging events to celebrate on social media, as well as opportunities to share your expert knowledge!
Below are additional suggested social media posts for veterinary clinics this month. To use the posts on your page, copy and paste the text into your post. Complimentary graphics are included in the zip file to the right.
These suggestions are pawstively certain to generate some buzz on your socials!
Preventative Reminder:
Now more than ever, it is important that clients are not forgetting those essential monthly preventatives. This adorable reminder will help get them on the right track for the month. If you have an online pharmacy, don’t forget to provide a link to make shopping easy and convenient!
Post Suggestion: Happy April! Don’t forget to give your pet their monthly preventative today!
Heartworm Awareness Month:
We know the realities of treating heartworms—the process is long, arduous, and expensive. Bringing awareness to how heartworms are contracted and how they can be prevented is a great way to kick off the month of April. If you have an online pharmacy, be sure to link it in the post to give your clients an easy path to ordering preventatives.
Another great feature to help bring awareness this month is through storytelling. If you have a client who has given permission, write a short overview about a case you have treated, schedule a Facebook Live event to tell the story/give more information on heartworms, or put together a photo album to tell a visual story.
Post Suggestion: There are no April fools here because heartworms are no joke! Heartworms are transmitted through infected mosquitoes and once your pet is heartworm positive, the treatment is long, hard on you and your pet, and expensive. The good news is that you can keep your pet protected with monthly preventatives! Mosquitos will be back and buzzing before you know it, so give us a call today if your need your pet’s monthly preventative prescription renewed or refilled!
April 1-7: Pooper Scooper Week
What goes in must come out! Pooper Scooper Week is a great reminder that picking up pet poop is part of responsible pet ownership, and this duo of graphics will help you get the point across. Use them together or space them out during Pooper Scooper Week!
Post Suggestion: Happy Pooper Scooper Week! Picking up your pet’s poop not only keeps green spaces looking fresh, but it is also essential to keeping the community at large healthy!
April 11: National Pet Day
Engage your clients by celebrating all pets today! If you treat exotics, this post is sure to get some cool photos.
Post Suggestion: Happy National Pet Day! It doesn’t matter if your pets are furry or feathery, scaley or slimy, we want to see them!
April 30: National Adopt A Shelter Pet Day
Give your followers a gentle reminder that shelter pets make fantastic companions. If you offer any sort of special discounts or promotions for recently adopted pets, now is a great time to bring that up!
Post Suggestion: Happy Adopt a Shelter Pet Day! Do you have a pet from a shelter or rescue? Tell their story in the comments below. If you are considering adding to your furry family, the shelter is a great place to start looking!

Need some blog-spiration? Here are some ideas to kickstart your creative writing streak!
Lost and Found: It is commonplace for found pets to be brought into our clinics and checked for a microchip, so if you have a story about a lost and found pet that ends with a happy reunited family, see if they will allow you to tell their story! You can touch on the importance of microchipping and give some insight into how it works. Give your readers more incentive to visit the clinic by offering a small discount on microchipping services if they mention your blog!
World Veterinary Day is celebrated yearly on April 24. Celebrate this special day by giving a short excerpt from each professional in your clinic about why they chose veterinary medicine and what they love most about it! This is a great way to help your readers learn more about the people that they trust to administer care to their beloved pets and helps to give your team the recognition they deserve! This would be a great way to get started in video blogging (vlogging) and can be an entryway into making videos for social media!
Additional Tips:
Laura’s Social Snippet: Video is a great way to engage followers! Breaking up your usual posts with videos adds variety to your social media and can help folks digest bigger chunks of information. For free video editing, I recommend Blender available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. You can locate free tutorials for using Blender on YouTube, and before you know it you will be a video editing pro! Feeling daring about trying new things involving videos? Try starting a TikTok for your clinic!

Stephanie’s Marketing Minute: Is spring cleaning on your mind? Make sure you clean your website, too! Check for outdated or broken links, update clinic and team photos, and review your forms to ensure everything is in working order. Your website is oftentimes the first impression people get of your clinic, so make sure it’s a good one! If your website needs a design refresh, please send me an email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. I would be happy to put together a custom quote for your clinic and give your digital presence a new look for 2021. Don’t forget, VHA members receive 10% off their website design fees!
