About The Event

Strong veterinary leaders do not need to become accountants, but they do need to understand the financial story their practice is telling them.

This program provides veterinary owners, managers, and emerging leaders with a practical framework for understanding a veterinary practice Profit & Loss Statement (P&L), identifying the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that matter most, and using financial information to make informed operational decisions.

Participants will learn how revenue, Cost of Goods Sold (COGS), doctor compensation, staff payroll, operating expenses, and profitability interact within the practice. Rather than simply reviewing financial statements after the fact, attendees will learn how to use the P&L as an active management tool to identify opportunities, investigate financial concerns, establish measurable goals, and improve accountability.

The program will also connect financial performance with operational KPIs such as revenue per DVM, average client transaction, transactions or visits, revenue per staff hour, payroll percentage, COGS percentage, and profitability. Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of not only what the numbers mean, but what actions they can take when those numbers are not where they want them to be.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Interpret a Profit & Loss Statement and understand
how revenue, COGS, payroll, operating expenses, and
    profitability impact practice performance.
  • Identify and evaluate key financial and operational
KPIs, including revenue per DVM, average client
    transaction, payroll percentage, and COGS
    percentage.
  • Apply financial data to management decisions by
    identifying opportunities, addressing performance
concerns, and establishing measurable goals for
    improvement.
