Position Summary
The Veterinary Technician plays a crucial role in supporting veterinarians in delivering high-quality medical care to patients. This position involves technical expertise, client communication, and teamwork to ensure the well-being of both patients and pet owners.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians in physical exams, diagnostics, and medical treatments
- Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, and fluid administration
- Administer medications, vaccinations, and prescribed treatments
- Monitor anesthesia and assist in surgical procedures
- Conduct dental prophylaxis, including scaling and polishing
- Take and develop radiographs (X-rays) as directed by the veterinarian
- Collect and process laboratory samples (blood, urine, feces, cytology)
- Maintain accurate patient records and medical history documentation
- Educate pet owners on preventive care, post-surgical care, and treatment plans
- Assist in emergency situations, providing stabilization and critical care support
- Ensure cleanliness, organization, and sanitation of treatment areas and equipment
- Manage inventory of medical supplies and pharmaceuticals
- Train and mentor veterinary assistants as needed
Required Qualifications
Licensed/Registered Veterinary Technician (LVT/RVT/CVT) preferred but not required
Proficiency in anesthesia monitoring, laboratory work, and patient handling
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Passion for patient care and continuous learning
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and restrain animals up to 50 lbs
Exposure to noise, odors, animal dander, and potential hazards
Standing, bending, and walking for extended periods
