About The Event

Overview:
Feline idiopathic cystitis (FIC) is the most common cause of feline lower urinary tract (LUT) signs. Despite a presentation primarily associated with LUT signs, FIC represents a health condition that involves more than the urinary bladder, linking the nervous system, adrenal system, husbandry practices, and the environment in which the cat lives. In this seminar, we will outline strategies to augment FIC diagnosis and explore how to identify key triggers for FIC. Attendees will gain an understanding of basic feline essential needs and how correcting deficiencies in husbandry practices and the environment can improve disease management.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the link between feline bladder health and emotional wellbeing
  • Apply strategies to improve FIC diagnosis and identify potential links to deficiencies in essential environmental needs
  • Evaluate patient-specific needs and create patient-specific care plans

About The Speaker

Kelly A. St. Denis, MSc, DVM, DABVP (feline practice)

Dr. St. Denis is board certified with the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in the specialty of feline practice. In her early career she trained in molecular biology and immunology, working in the fields of diabetes and cancer research. She graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1999 and completed her ABVP certification in 2013 with recertification in 2023. Dr. St. Denis is co-editor of the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery and JFMS Open Reports, a consultant on the Veterinary Information Network and an internationally known author and lecturer on all things feline. She currently she works in clinical practice 2 days a week.
