Training Program: Students will also have the opportunity to observe and participate in appointments both in our clinic and our mobile truck. They will be involved in history collection, observing DVM physical exams, blood/urine collection, taking body x-rays, evaluating cytology when able (ear, skin predominately; we have AI for urine and fecal), administering vaccines/librela/solensia/cytopoint, and more. We do have and often run in house testing - CBC, Chemistry, T4, SDMA, Urinalysis, Fecal, C-Reactive Protein, cortisol levels, and more. Students may also have the opportunity to participate in technician appointments depending on staff and scheduling while student is here.
Time Period/Externship Length: 2 weeks preferred but willing to discuss other options with applicants Generally 8 hour shifts that may be Monday through Friday +/- some Saturdays depending on length of externship

What You'll Need To Bring:They should dress in clean, solid-colored scrubs with closed-toed shoes. If able, bring a stethoscope. Bring a lunch/snacks/beverages in closed containers. When working in the building, lunch/breaks are typically ~12-1 pm. When out on the truck, breaks are predominantly during drive time between homes. While we do stop for gas/bathroom breaks, food options are not always readily available in the area we're driving.

Clinic Details:Veterinary technology students will have the opportunity to observe and participate in surgical procedures - calculating drugs, administering IM/IV/SQ injections, placing IV catheters, intubating, taking dental x-rays, scaling and polishing teeth, dental probing, assisting in surgical procedures - preparing patients for surgery, presurgical exams, monitoring anesthesia, recovering patients and observing surgical discharges. We do a lot of dentistry with some soft tissue procedures (spays, neuters, lumpectomies, gastropexy, foreign body if needed, cystotomies, abdominal exploration with biopsies, etc. We have a boarded surgeon come in for orthopedic procedures and/or more advanced surgeries.
