Heads Up: A New Scam Is Targeting Veterinary Practices on Facebook

If you manage your clinic’s Facebook page, here’s something to watch for. A new phishing scam is making the rounds, and it’s a clever one because it doesn’t rely on a fake email or a sketchy-looking link from an unknown sender. It uses a real, legitimate Facebook feature against you.

How It Works

Facebook has a feature called partnership requests. It’s a normal part of how Meta Business Manager works. It’s a routine, everyday part of managing a business page.

Scammers have figured out how to abuse this. They create a Meta Business account, then send out partnership requests of their own, dressed up to look official with language like “You’ve received a Business Manager partner request” or “Meta Agency Partner Program.” Because Facebook’s own system generates and sends the email, it passes every legitimacy check your email might run. The sender is genuinely Meta. The formatting is genuinely Meta’s. The only thing that isn’t legitimate is where the link inside actually takes you.

Click through, and you’ll land on a page designed to look like an official Meta verification or partner portal, but it’s really just a form built to steal your login credentials. If a scammer gets into your account this way, they can gain access to your page, your ad accounts, and anything tied to your Business Manager.

What You Can Do

We wish we had a faster fix, but for now, here’s what we recommend:

Loop in anyone else who might see these requests come through, whether that’s your office manager, front desk team, or whoever handles your clinic’s email, so they know not to click anything. Set up a folder in your email with a rule that automatically routes anything with the subject “Business Manager Partnership Request” out of your main inbox. Just don’t mark these as spam. Since they’re technically real emails from Facebook, doing so could send all of your Facebook notifications to your spam folder going forward. If you’re comfortable navigating Meta Business Suite, it’s worth periodically checking your partnership requests hub and removing anything pending that you didn’t initiate.

We’re Keeping an Eye on This

Right now, there’s no way to stop these requests from coming in altogether. This is really on Meta to address, and we’re hopeful they tighten up this process soon. In the meantime, if anything ever looks off on your social media, if an email from Meta has you second-guessing, or if you’d just like help locking down your accounts, reach out to Laura: [email protected]
